Why teams are struggling to play on Friday nights?
Once again, another chaotic Saturday as four of the top ten teams fall this weekend. The most surprising was Miami losing to Louisville at home. The Hurricanes were regarded as one of the best teams in the country. Many people believed that they should have even been ranked #1 the last couple of weeks. The Hurricanes did not play like the #2 teams in the country should be playing. Quarterback Carson Beck struggled in this game as he threw 4 interceptions including a costly one at the end of the game to help Louisville close it out. Beck was a contender for the Heisman trophy before this weekend and one bad game may have cost him a chance to be in that conversation. Miami still has all of their goals still in front of them as their schedule doesn’t look very daunting. You have to give credit to Louisville for coming out prepared. They made a couple mistakes but had the right gameplan to go into a hostile environment and pull off an upset. Cardinals head coach Jeff Brohm moves to 4-0 against top five teams in his career. It is remarkable that he has been able to beat these high caliber teams with much less talent. Many coaching jobs have come available the last couple of weeks and I would be shocked if Brohm doesn’t end up somewhere else.
In college football there seems to be many upsets throughout the season but something is different about Friday night games. In 2025 ranked teams that play unranked teams on Fridays nights have a combined record of 4-4 of those four losses two of them are top ten opponents. Coaches need to look into this when getting their teams ready to play on Friday nights. I believe guys struggle with a short week of practice as that changes up their routine. Also, playing inferior opponents will most likely not motivate the players enough during the short week of practice. Not to make excuses for the players and coaches but, this is not a NFL schedule playing on days that aren’t Saturdays can affect them a lot more than you would think.

#8 BYU, #10 Georgia Tech: They deserve a spot in my top 10 as they continue to win games. These undefeated teams may not be able to compete against other teams in the top ten but, I believe being undefeated matters. Only 6 teams in the country are undefeated thus far into the season. I would not be shocked if either one of these teams are competing for a playoff spot at the end of the year. Their schedules are both favorable and they have a chance to win their respective conference championships.
#9 Vanderbilt: The Commodores are no longer a bottom feeder in the SEC. Vanderbilt has a real chance at a SEC championship appearance and a playoff berth. Their schedule is very daunting coming down the stretch but if they can continue with the success that they have had they will make the playoffs.
